The Government extended by 60 days the signing of energy storage contracts corresponding to the “AlmaGBA” program, which aims to have reserves in case of system saturation.
The measure grants an additional period of 60 business days to complete the subscription of the necessary agreements to launch the projects. This extension applies retroactively from January 12, 2026, according to Resolution 14/2026 of the Secretariat of Energy, processed by the Argentine News Agency.
The regulation details that the decision responds to specific requests from winning companies that are undergoing corporate restructuring processes or require additional administrative deadlines.
To date, seven contracts have been signed, representing a total power of 449 megawatts (MW). With this extension, the aim is to finalize the signing of the remaining five contracts, which represent an awarded power of 264 MW and are still pending formalization.
The AlmaGBA project is an open call, both national and international, aimed at entering into electricity generation and storage contracts.
The objective of this system is to improve the reliability of electrical operation in the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) area and in the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI).
Originally, the project contemplated a power of 500 MW, but the Secretariat of Energy decided to expand it by an additional 150 MW due to the technical benefits and convenient costs presented in the offers.
In this scheme, the distribution companies Edenor and Edesur act as buyers, while the Wholesale Electricity Market Administrator Company (CAMMESA) intervenes as a last-instance payment guarantor.
