From this Saturday, January 10, until February 28, the Tigre branch of the Mitre Line will be interrupted, and the J. L. Suárez and Bartolomé Mitre branches will not reach the Retiro terminal due to urgent and essential tasks to increase operational safety levels and service reliability. According to Trenes Argentinos, the Tigre branch will be closed for 49 consecutive days. Services to J. L. Suárez and Bartolomé Mitre will run only between Belgrano R and their respective terminals. These works are part of the Railway Emergency decreed by the National Government. The work will be carried out from the Crisólogo Larrande underpass to the Laprida level crossing, as well as at the Vicente López station. Since all signals in the system will be replaced, trains will not be able to enter the terminal. Therefore, the Suárez and Mitre branches will only connect Belgrano R with J. L. Suárez and Bartolomé Mitre. These works are part of a large-scale project started 10 months ago, which includes the total renewal of 40 km of track, 47 km of third rail, intervention in 24 level crossings and 22 pedestrian crossings, replacement of 4 bumpers at Tigre station, and the renewal of 23 switches and the adaptation of 65 bridges or culverts. Additionally, work will be done on the bridges on Av. Figueroa Alcorta and Av. Dorrego. The upgrading of the tracks on the Tigre branch is urgent, as the sleepers and rails are over 40 years old and in a state of significant deterioration. To date, 20 km of tracks have been completely renewed, tracks have been replaced in 10 station layouts, 14 level crossings have been intervened, and improvements have been made to 12 bridges and culverts. At the same time, and for the same period, the work of installing new signaling at the entrance to Retiro will be carried out. This is the final stage of the intervention that will allow the replacement of the old system, over 100 years old, with a modern and automated one. During the first three weeks, the existing system will be dismantled and new equipment will be installed: 28 ATS signals and beacons, 16 switch machines, and 70 track circuit boxes.
