Argentine Family Delinquency Hits New Record

Buenos Aires, December 21 (NA) — The delinquency rate among Argentine families continues to grow, marking its twelfth consecutive month of increase in October, setting a new record since the Central Bank (BCRA) began tracking this data in 2010. The monetary authority revealed that the delinquency ratio for credits requested by households reached 7.8%, driven mainly by personal loans and credit cards. According to the Banks' Report published by the BCRA, accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the annual increase in the household delinquency ratio was 5.5 percentage points. This segment experienced the largest year-on-year jump, with a 6.5 percentage point increase. The most significant rise within this category was seen in personal loans. Credit cards also saw a significant increase in delinquency, which stood at 7.7%, up 6 percentage points over the last year. Meanwhile, the increase in pawn loans was more moderate, reaching 4.8% (+1.1 percentage points). Mortgages remained relatively stable, with a delinquency ratio close to 1%. The phenomenon of delinquency was not limited to households. By consolidating the debt of families and companies, the system's delinquency ratio rose to 4.5% in November, representing a 3 percentage point annual increase and the highest figure recorded since November 2021. The data reflects the credit situation for October (household delinquency) and November (total delinquency), with the former being recorded before the interest rate relief implemented after the legislative elections. The segments with the most deterioration were: Personal loans: 9.9% of the financing, almost one in ten, was not paid on time. Delinquency among companies also recorded a significant increase over the last year, rising from 0.7% to 1.9%.
