Argentina settles nearly $1 billion in Bopreal 2026 bonds

Buenos Aires, December 1 (NA) – Through the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), the national government settled approximately US$ 1 billion in reserves corresponding to the 'Bond for the Reconstruction of a Free Argentina' (Bopreal 2026). This was one of the maturities—accumulated until the end of 2023—of the bond that the entity, led by Santiago Bausili, had granted to importers to settle debts abroad. The settlement was made using reserves, and the total reserves for the day ended at US$ 41.776 billion, after reaching US$ 41.901 billion last week, according to the Argentine News Agency. While a greater impact on reserve accumulation was expected, it ultimately did not change the equation for the BCRA amid the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) calls for hoarding dollars. The Bopreal 2026 had been used by the government of Javier Milei to settle accumulated debt with importers, and previous payments had already been made.
