Buenos Aires approves 2026 budget

The Buenos Aires Legislature approved the 2026 budget for the administration of Jorge Macri after intense negotiations that ended with the support of members of La Libertad Avanza (LLA). According to the Argentine News Agency, the vote resulted in 38 approvals and 21 rejections, with no abstentions. According to the figures for the 2026 budget, 62% of the resources will be allocated to Security, Health, and Education, while a fiscal relief is expected for Gross Income Tax for non-professional workers and exemptions on the Stamp Tax. "We have achieved a budget that has the capacity to find a balance between order and security, care policies, and infrastructure works to improve mobility. It also respects the fiscal balance and reduces tax pressure. This demonstrates the value of reaching agreements with other political sectors. We want to thank our legislators and the different blocs that supported it," highlighted Jorge Macri. The approved text amounts to 17 trillion 347 billion pesos and is composed of: Security, Education, Health, and Social Promotion, among other items, which make up the largest part of the investment for 2026, at 61.7%. The main project for the coming year will be Line F of the subway, which will connect Barracas with Plaza Italia through 12 stations that will pass through eight neighborhoods. It is estimated that it will be used by 300,000 passengers daily. The project contemplates 285.164 million pesos for the first sections, which will last five years, with an estimated budget of approximately 1.5 billion dollars.
