Buenos Aires, November 14 (NA) – The Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) celebrated the trade agreement reached between Argentina and the United States and said it awaits the letter of the agreement to comment on its scope. "We celebrate the framework for a reciprocal agreement between Argentina and the United States, which will allow for the promotion of trade, investment, and employment," the UIA said in a statement obtained by the Argentine News Agency. It stated that this agreement "will allow Argentina to promote its industrial development by integrating into the concert of Western countries that respect the rules of international trade." It also considered that it will help avoid "the distortive actions generated by state-owned companies and industrial subsidies present in non-market economies," alluding to China. The industrial federation said it will "wait for the publication of the agreement's details to understand the sectoral scope." The Latin American steel sector asked the region's governments for help to be more competitive in the face of the crisis caused by deindustrialization derived from the growth of Chinese imports. "Governments, some to a greater extent and others to a lesser extent, are beginning to understand this problem and are beginning to understand the importance that industry has in generating value, good employment, and growth," said the CEO of Ternium and the new president of the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero), Máximo Vedoya. During the closing of the Alacero Summit 2025, the executive highlighted the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to confront China's predatory practices. "With predatory practices (...) they monopolized all manufacturing, but in addition to producing 40% (of manufacturing), (the Chinese) only consume 13%. I do not agree that they have imposed tariffs on Latin America, but the reality is that a stop had to be put to (China)." This differential that they export is, in reality, the product of a good employment program," Vedoya explained. That is why he added: "It is very difficult to compete against that and the reality (...) is that the Trump administration did what it had to do."
Argentina Celebrates Trade Deal with the US
The Argentine Industrial Union welcomes the US agreement, which it believes will boost industrial development and counter China's distorting policies. The Latin American steel sector also supports these measures.
