Martín Cabrales, president of the 31st Industrial Conference of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA), stated today that the country is at a turning point, asserting that from December 10th, an 'opportunity to carry out a multitude of transformations' opens up. In an interview with the Argentine News Agency, Cabrales called it a 'happy day' due to the record number of registrants, advertisers, and young attendees at the conference titled 'The Future is Produced Today.' He highlighted that these long-discussed changes are finally within reach. The conference is taking place at the CEC in Buenos Aires. The main focus of these transformations, according to Cabrales, lies in the need for labor modernization and tax reform, issues that have been firmly on the UIA's agenda. Cabrales stated that industry is the 'solution to the problem' of the country, not a problem in itself, and that it is necessary for the public and private sectors to work together. The businessman was emphatic in stating that labor modernization is 'fundamental' to combat the 'terrible' labor informality affecting Argentina. He emphasized that the only ones harmed by the current system are workers, and the goal is to achieve greater formalization and the capacity to 'create more jobs.' Likewise, the litigation associated with labor law is 'terrible,' a problem that forces small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to close their businesses if they have to lay off a person. Although the full laws are handled with 'secrecy' and will not be disclosed until December, Cabrales referred to the clues given by the government, such as a possible three-point reduction in employer contributions. He stressed that it is crucial to see the complete law to assess its impact. Regarding the relationship with the Executive, Cabrales described it as a 'permanent dialogue' with the president and Milei, denying that there are any slights or a bad relationship. He also highlighted the attendance of Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and Secretary of Justice Sebastián Amerio at the conference, a significant fact after their previous absences. Finally, Cabrales reiterated the fundamental principle of industrialists: no privileges are requested. What is demanded is 'equality of conditions' to be able to compete. At the beginning of his speech, Luis Caputo stated that industry is the 'solution to the problem' of the country, not a problem in itself, and that it is necessary for the public and private sectors to work together. He also emphasized that the only ones harmed by the current system are workers, and the goal is to achieve greater formalization and the capacity to 'create more jobs.'
Argentina at a turning point: industry as the solution
UIA President Martín Cabrales stated Argentina is at a turning point, opening doors for transformation. He emphasized that industry is the solution to the country's problems, not a problem itself, calling for public-private collaboration to modernize labor laws and combat informality.
