Argentina's Own Bourbon: Anthill
The idea to create their own distilled spirit came from anticipating a market shift. "We saw that the 'fever' for craft beer was going to pass, and what came next was going to be craft whiskey," recall the founders. This is how the concept of an Argentine bourbon was born, one with the heart of American tradition but an unmistakably local spirit.
The Secret of the Centenary Oak
The most notable difference of Anthill lies in its aging process. To give the bourbon a special character, the founders use oak chips from trees over 80 years old, found on their own estate, "El Hormiguero" (The Anthill). This nearly centenary wood imparts an authentic and unique touch to the distillate, setting it apart from industrial products.
The journey was not easy. The friends dedicated more than two years to trial and error, perfecting a recipe that uses corn, wheat, and rye—all natural ingredients without preservatives. "We do the entire process, from the mash onward, up to the bottling and labeling of the bottles," they explain, emphasizing total control over quality.
The distillery, "El Hormiguero," produces limited batches of about 100 bottles per month. This low production is a conscious choice to not lose its artisanal essence. "If you grow too much, you become just another one, and that's not the idea," they state. If a batch doesn't have the flavor they're looking for, they don't hesitate to discard it: "We start over as many times as necessary."
A Whiskey for Everyone
One of the creators' goals was to democratize whiskey consumption. The result is a distillate defined as a "Whiskey for those who are not regular whiskey drinkers," as it is smooth and easy to drink.
