The government authorized a 1.7% increase in the transportation and distribution rates of natural gas. This was carried out through resolutions from the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) and is part of the measures within the energy emergency extended until July 9, 2025. The rate review allows for temporary adjustments in service bills.
In the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), residential users without subsidies will see an increase in the PIST price of $120.18 per cubic meter. Customers of Distribuidora Gas Cuyana will have the highest cost, at US$3.148 per million BTU. There are discounts of 65% and 50% for low-income households (Level 2) and medium-income (Level 3) respectively, on a specific consumption block.
The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, requested this increase in natural gas rates for March. The 1.7% update includes both the transportation and distribution of gas. Caputo emphasized the importance of maintaining prices and rates at constant real values to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the sector.
The PIST price at the entry point to the Transportation System was set at US$3.085 per million BTU for Metrogas users, being one of the lowest. Should the expected consumption be exceeded, an additional cost will be applied for the difference. The rate adjustment was authorized for several gas distributors and transporters, impacting AMBA users with a new charge per cubic meter.
In March, the charge per cubic meter of consumption for Metrogas and Naturgy users will range between $189.65 and $203.98 respectively. Additionally, there will be a new fixed cost in the rates that will vary according to the category and subzone of residence in the AMBA. The adjustments aim to maintain the sustainability of the energy sector and the continuity of public service provision.
