Dollar Increase Amid Political Tension

The parallel dollar in Argentina has experienced an increase of 15 pesos in the first three days of the week, in a context of political tension caused by the LIBRA gate scandal. The exchange rate gap in the informal market is around 14.45%. Currently, the parallel dollar is 5 pesos below the value with which it started the year, closing the year 2024 at $1230.

On Tuesday, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) made a purchase of 171 million dollars in the Unique and Free Exchange Market. Since Luis Caputo took over the presidency of the BCRA on December 13, 2023, the entity has accumulated a positive balance of 24.617 million dollars, and the country's International Reserves stand at 28.404 million dollars.

Regarding the official dollar, this Thursday, February 20, it is quoted at 1079 pesos for sale on the screens of Banco Nación. Below is the quotation of the official dollar at various banks and financial entities in the Buenos Aires City surveyed by the BCRA.

It is expected that the Central Bank will intervene more strongly in the coming days to control the dollar price. Currently, the official dollar remains at 1039 pesos for purchase and 1079 pesos for sale at Banco Nación. On the other hand, the card dollar is at 1402.7 pesos after perceptions modifications made by the Government.

Regarding the blue dollar, this Thursday, February 20, it is quoted at 1205 pesos for purchase and 1225 pesos for sale. Greater actions from the entity in the bond market are anticipated to mitigate possible pressures amid the political agitation following President Javier Milei's scandal with the LIBRA token.
