The Secretary General of the La Fraternidad Railway Union, Omar Maturano, confirmed that he will hold a press conference past noon, where a fair salary for workers in the railway sector will be demanded. Maturano expressed his discontent with the current situation, mentioning that many unions choose not to demand salary increases to avoid possible layoffs by the National Government. In contrast, he emphasized: 'We want to demand a decent salary.'
The train strike, which had been announced since last week, began today at 9 a.m. and is planned to continue until 5 p.m. The purpose of this measure is to ensure that passengers can travel to their workplaces and return home without setbacks. Maturano pointed out that, despite losing almost half of their purchasing power during the last year, public companies in the sector only offer a 1% salary adjustment to their employees.
Regarding the union's stance towards the Government, Maturano stated: 'We are looking for another way to address the demands. We do not feel weak against the Government because the members are eager to fight for their income.' The Secretary General announced that a press conference open to questions will take place at 1 p.m. at the headquarters of La Fraternidad, located at HipĆ³lito Yrigoyen 1938, in the City of Buenos Aires.
