A tragic incident shocked the Buenos Aires locality of Boulogne, in the San Isidro district, when a gas leak triggered a powerful explosion and fire in a house. The event took place on María B. de Cazón at 2500, in the Bajo Boulogne area.
After receiving alerts about a strong smell of gas, personnel from the supplying company arrived on site to inspect the situation. Unfortunately, the accumulation of gas caused a violent explosion that resulted in a devastating fire. Emergency teams acted quickly and managed to rescue 77-year-old Horacio Lugo, who was urgently transported to the Boulogne Hospital. However, Horacio passed away shortly after due to the severe burns and injuries sustained in the incident. According to one of his granddaughters, the man lived in a house located at the back of the property where the explosion occurred.
In total, four people were seriously injured in the incident. 42-year-old Sergio Gómez is in critical condition with respiratory assistance. Gabriela Pedrozo and Facundo Mansilla suffered severe burns and remain in critical condition. On the other hand, 76-year-old Ana María Blanes sustained minor injuries and is out of danger. Mansilla, who was part of the team of technicians working in the area at the time of the explosion, was urgently transferred to the hospital due to his injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that the gas leak may be related to an illegal connection identified in the block. Following the tragic event, the gas company decided to cut off the supply in the affected area. Additionally, several neighboring houses suffered damage as a result of the shockwave generated by the explosion.
