On Monday, March 9th, a ceremony was held at the Batán Penitentiary where Inspector María Guadalupe Díaz officially took office as director. This is the first time in the history of the penitentiary, located in the General Pueyrredón district, that a woman has held this position. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy General Director of Penitentiary Complexes, Ariel Gómez, who presented the new head of the institution. Díaz, who holds a degree in Penitentiary Management and is a Senior Technician in Penitentiary Treatment and Security, thanked the authorities for their trust and highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional work and the commitment of the staff for the daily functioning of the facility. She also noted that she has 25 years of service in the system and has worked in various prisons in the province of Buenos Aires. Díaz's appointment is linked to the gradual entry of women into leadership roles within penitentiary institutions, and not to a previous conflict with the outgoing director, Edgardo Edmundo Flores.
