In the Buenos Aires party of Bahía Blanca, drivers involved in a traffic accident under the influence of drugs or alcohol will have to assume the cost of their medical attention, as part of a comprehensive Road Safety plan that will be presented by the municipality to the Deliberative Council. This plan is expected to incorporate 34 programs distributed across six work axes, such as Road Training and Education, Driver's Licenses, Road Infrastructure, Control and Supervision, and Communication.
In the context of the plan's presentation, Mayor Federico Susbielles highlighted the importance of working in a coordinated manner in the long term to achieve a significant cultural change in road safety in Bahía Blanca. Among the measures mentioned by the city chief are modifications in the system for obtaining driver's licenses and the possible implementation of incentives to promote responsible behaviors.
It is planned to introduce a practical test on public roads using vehicles with dual controls, as well as collaborate with the Deliberative Council in the presentation of ordinances that provide, for example, that those responsible for accidents under the effects of drugs or alcohol reimburse the costs of their medical attention. Additionally, efforts will be made to recognize and support drivers who maintain a clean record, exempting them from the fee for issuing the license upon renewal.
Other projected improvements include the optimization of road infrastructure, focusing on city signage to enhance safety on main roads, reducing speed in high-traffic areas, and establishing minimum speed limits near educational institutions.
