Bahía Blanca Declares State of Emergency

The president of the Democracy for Ever bloc, Pablo Juliano, stated that legislators have the opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with Bahía Blanca by declaring an emergency. The goal is to work together to address the exceptional situation caused by the severe storm last Friday, coordinating actions with the provincial government and affected municipalities.

In the debate on the project, Deputy Victoria Tolosa Paz highlighted the consensus reached among all political parties to prioritize the general interest over party differences. She stressed the need to assist affected families and to rebuild the damaged infrastructure, including bridges, hydraulic works, and devastated schools in Bahía Blanca.

The Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved the law declaring an environmental, economic, and housing emergency in Bahía Blanca, with the support of all political blocs and 230 votes. The proposal, driven by Tolosa Paz, extends the emergency for 90 days to the city and municipalities affected by the storm in March.

The project establishes an extraordinary budget for the recovery of infrastructure and assistance in sectors such as economy, health, education, and social services. It highlights the decision not to set a specific amount, leaving the determination of resources to the joint work between national and provincial authorities.

Deputies like Karina Banfi expressed the anguish and the magnitude of the catastrophe experienced in Bahía Blanca, underscoring the need for solidarity, sensibility, and cooperation to face the repercussions of the tragedy. The educational emergency was particularly celebrated as part of the comprehensive commitment to reconstruction and support for the affected community.
