Political Turmoil Over Emergencies in Bahía Blanca

Facundo Manes and Miguel Pichetto push for emergency declaration in Bahía Blanca amidst political strife related to the 'criptogate' issues, causing tensions in Congress.

Political Turmoil Over Emergencies in Bahía Blanca

The blocs of Facundo Manes and Miguel Pichetto, along with the larretista Álvaro González, have included in the agenda for the session scheduled for this Wednesday a project for a declaration of emergency for Bahía Blanca, which forced two radicals from Rodrigo De Loredo to provide a quorum. Despite the pressures, the chamber already had 130 deputies seated in their benches, including figures like Karina Banfi, Fabio Quetglas, Oscar Zago, and Lourdes Arrieta.

In this context, the MID bloc, led by Zago, presented a project for the creation of an investigative commission that complicates the Milei brothers, who seek to prevent the issue from being further explored. "We don't want a circus, but from the beginning we stated that it needs to be clarified," expressed the members of that bloc. However, the files under discussion, which range from a request for political trial to interrogations of figures like Karina Milei, lack the report needed for approval, which would require two-thirds to obtain initial sanction, something that so far is being comfortably obstructed by the 87 deputies who saved the President's vetoes.

The opposition and different blocs were betting on placing the Constitutional Affairs and Petitions, Powers and Regulation commissions in order to debate the files and vote by absolute majority in the upcoming sessions. Despite attempts at agreements in Parliamentary Labor, the ruling party accused the opposition of seeking to take advantage of the cryptogate.

As the session approached, the discrepancies became more evident. The bloc president was trying to approve the file regarding the flooding in Bahía Blanca and disperse the chamber, leaving the opposition without a quorum to discuss the case $LIBRA. In this scenario, some deputies proposed voting on a plan with placements at the beginning and the emergency for Bahía Blanca afterward, a proposal that did not have the support of all sectors present at the meeting.
