Key Legislative Sessions in Argentina Focus on Cryptocurrency and Environmental Emergency

Lawmakers are preparing to session in the Chamber of Deputies this week, addressing key issues such as cryptocurrency LIBRA and the declaration of environmental emergency in Bahía Blanca. Deputy Pablo Juliano requested a special session to investigate the cryptogate and request reports from various officials, while Deputy Victoria Tolosa Paz proposed the declaration of emergency for Bahía Blanca, seeking to obtain more funds and assistance for the city.

The main focus is on article 4 of this initiative, which proposes the adoption of special financial measures. Meanwhile, the LIBRA scandal, the emergency in Bahía Blanca, the documents of candidates for the Supreme Court, and the Decree of Necessity and Urgency due to the agreement with the IMF are topics marking the start of ordinary sessions in Congress.

Yesterday, the Government sent a Decree of Necessity and Urgency for parliamentary ratification, expecting a quick endorsement in the Chamber of Deputies, where it has a majority of its own and allied seats. If rejected, the Decree would fall.

Casa Rosada transferred funds to the province of Buenos Aires and to Bahía Blanca, but the estimated needs for the reconstruction of the city are significantly greater. Legislative blocks must ensure a quorum with 129 deputies present and will not be able to make modifications to the text, only vote for or against the project.

In the Senate, it is expected that the Agreements Commission will finish signing the nomination of Manuel García-Mansilla, one of those appointed by decree for the Supreme Court. While the Union for the Homeland bloc seeks to complete the signatures to reject his nomination, Casa Rosada assures that it will not withdraw either of the two pending documents in the upper house.
