The director of the "José Penna" Interzonal Hospital of Acute Care in Bahía Blanca, Jorge Moyano, reported that the center still does not have operational operating rooms and it is estimated that it will take another month and a half before they can resume surgeries in full operation. Moyano highlighted that work is currently underway to install vinyl flooring and acquire the necessary equipment, a process that will take additional time.
Regarding the complaints from healthcare professionals, it is noted that the lack of operating rooms has generated critical situations, especially in emergency cases where patients require urgent interventions. Moyano pointed out that, despite having had to perform emergency surgeries under these conditions, there is a significant risk for both patients and medical staff.
The professionals of the hospital's Surgical Service warned about the shortage of resources and essential conditions to provide care to patients who need immediate surgeries. Among the mentioned deficiencies are the lack of operating rooms, surgical instruments, a CT scanner, and active anesthesia 24 hours a day.
In this critical context, professionals emphasized the lack of coordination between the emergency service 107 and the hospital and other health centers, which has caused significant delays in the referral of patients with conditions that require urgent attention.
Surgeon Juan Ariel Bykaluk expressed his concern about the situation, indicating that despite efforts to prepare the hospital, the lack of operating rooms prevents surgical interventions from being carried out. The complexity of the issue has led professionals to point out that patient safety and the exposure of personnel to professional and legal risks are compromised.
