The Minister of Security of the province of Buenos Aires, Javier Alonso, confirmed the tragic news about the discovery of the body of Rubén Salazar, the driver of a truck from the Andreani company who was attempting to assist a mother and her two daughters during a storm in Bahía Blanca last Friday. The mother was rescued 150 meters from where Salazar's body was found, while the girls are still missing and are being intensely searched for.
Alonso reported that, despite the multiple evacuations that took place, no looting was recorded in the abandoned homes; only three acts of vandalism were reported in businesses, specifically in a supermarket. The minister highlighted the collaboration with the national government during these critical moments and emphasized the importance of setting aside any political differences to focus on providing assistance to the residents of Bahía Blanca.
Regarding the tragic incident, Alonso expressed: 'It's one more life we lost, it's 16 so far.' He detailed that Salazar's body was found 150 meters from the place where the girls' mother was rescued, and that the search for Delfina and Pilar Hecker, aged one and five, who were swept away by the current along with their mother after deviating from the road due to the storm, continues.
The girls' father managed to cling to the vehicle, which got caught in the railway infrastructure, while the mother and the girls were swept away to where Salazar's truck became trapped. With the driver's help, they all took refuge on the roof of the vehicle, but a subsequent current swept all four away. The uncertainty and pain remain palpable until the whereabouts of the missing little girls are discovered.
