The Racing team, current champion of the Sudamericana Cup 2024, is competing in the Recopa Sudamericana against Botafogo, the winner of the Libertadores Cup 2024. The series began with the first match held at the Cilindro de Avellaneda, where the team led by Gustavo Costas won with a score of 2-0 thanks to goals by Luciano Vietto, from a penalty, and Adrián 'Maravilla' Martínez.
This victory undoubtedly gives Racing a great advantage heading into the return leg, which, according to tournament regulations, will be played at the home of the Libertadores Cup champion. The rematch between Botafogo and Racing for the Recopa Sudamericana is scheduled for next Thursday, February 27, at 9:30 PM, at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Racing only needs a draw to be crowned champion of the Recopa, and they can even afford to lose by just one goal. If Botafogo wins by two goals, extra time will take place, and if the aggregate score remains tied, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.
