Independiente Triumphs Over Gimnasia 2-0 in Torneo Apertura

Independiente secured a 2-0 victory against Gimnasia in the Liga Profesional de Fútbol. Gabriel Ávalos and Álvaro Angulo scored as Independiente maintains its perfect score. The match was marked by a controversial penalty and showcased great goalkeeping by Rodrigo Rey.


The Independiente team achieved a very important 2-0 victory against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in a match corresponding to the third round of the Torneo Apertura of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, maintaining a perfect score.

El Rojo opened the scoring early in the match through a controversial penalty awarded by referee Pablo Echavarría for an alleged handball by Gastón Suso. Paraguayan forward Gabriel Ávalos was the one who converted it expertly, putting his team ahead in the 10th minute.

Although Independiente had a goal disallowed for offside, Gimnasia began to balance the flow of the game and created several goal-scoring opportunities. However, the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey prevented any equalizer from the Platense team.

Colombian defender Álvaro Angulo sealed the match with a goal in the 36th minute of the second half, taking advantage of a defensive lapse from Gimnasia. With the match decided, Santiago Villarreal received a red card, leaving his team with one less player on the field.

With this victory, Independiente remains the leader of Group B with nine points from nine possible, while Gimnasia continues without earning points or being able to score goals in the tournament so far. In the next round, Independiente will face River Plate as visitors, while Gimnasia will host Godoy Cruz.
