Independiente seeks to strengthen defense before the league

Independiente club continues active in the transfer market just days before the start of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol. One of the targets in sight is central defender Víctor Cuesta, who has previously played for the team and has been captain. The team is looking to strengthen its defense after the departures of Marco Pellegrino, Joaquín Laso, and Juan Fedorco.

Víctor Cuesta, a defender with experience in Independiente and Argentine football, is one of the players that the Avellaneda club is considering to reinforce its squad. The technical direction led by Julio Vaccari is looking for a player to compete for a spot in the defense, and Cuesta's arrival would be an important addition for the 2025 season.

In search of new defensive options, Independiente was also negotiating the incorporation of Franco Paredes from River Plate. However, as this signing is not yet finalized, the focus shifts to Víctor Cuesta, whose last step was with a team in Brazil. Cuesta previously played for Independiente in 2014 under the direction of Jorge Almirón, managing to stand out and earn a place in the starting eleven.

Although it was rumored that Víctor Cuesta was offered to San Lorenzo, coach Miguel Ángel Russo decided not to move forward with the signing. Independiente is evaluating the possibility of signing the defender, although it is also considering the option of incorporating Ramiro Funes Mori, who lacks continuity at River Plate. However, Funes Mori's arrival in Avellaneda could face difficulties due to economic reasons according to sources close to the club.
