Santiago Toloza Leaves Independiente for Platense

Midfielder Santiago Toloza, who wore the number 10 shirt at Independiente for the last year and a half, has terminated his contract with the club from Avellaneda. Toloza will now play for Platense after his performance did not reach the expected level due to injuries, expulsions, and inappropriate behavior in the locker room. Despite having a contract with Independiente until December 2026, it was decided to end the relationship one year and eleven months early.

"I intend to return to Independiente in the future; I thank the fans for the beautiful moments at the club," Toloza expressed upon learning of his departure. In a mutually beneficial agreement, it was established that the player would retain his transfer rights in exchange for forgiving a debt of $500,000 that the club owed him. This step is considered crucial for the player’s career.

On the other hand, Rodrigo Atencio, a 22-year-old midfielder, revealed that his dream was to succeed with Independiente, but he was recently transferred to Sport Recife in Brazil by decision of the Argentine club. This move caused discomfort among Independiente’s members after Atencio returned following an outstanding season at Central Córdoba of Santiago del Estero.

The transfer of Atencio to Brazilian football for 2 million dollars sparked discontent among Independiente fans. Despite this, the player, aware of the importance of this new stage in his career, showed enthusiasm for the challenge of playing at Sport Recife and made clear his commitment to his new team.
