The recession has caused a significant increase in business closures and layoffs. Morvillo, a company considered legendary that maintained its position among the market leaders for nearly half a century, joins the list of major publishing houses that have closed their doors. The workers have decided to remain on the premises in defense of their jobs, achievements, and the continuity of production.
"With a sadness that is hard to describe, we must tell you that we can no longer move forward. We understand the impact, not only economic but emotional, that leaving part of our history in memory entails," expressed the company's management in a statement dated February 25, 2025.
In response to the closure announcement, the workers opted for an indefinite stay in the plant to safeguard jobs and productive continuity. The company's internal committee pointed out that the crisis in the graphic sector is not new but has worsened in the last year, putting at least 200 jobs at risk.
The Anselmo Morvillo graphics company, located in Avellaneda, announced its closure to the workers after the night shift ended. Rumors are circulating about the possible arrival of investors demanding mass layoffs and salary cuts, which has led employees to decide to occupy the factory in defense of their jobs.
The hearing at the Ministry of Labor aimed to mediate in the conflict, in which the company argues a 63% reduction in production, the loss of key customers, rising input prices, and the need for advance payment for paper. Throughout its history, the company has adapted to economic crises and market changes, but the current circumstances have led it to closure, jeopardizing the jobs of nearly 200 employees.
