Independiente Faces Legal Action Over Debt

Independiente's recent financial troubles escalate as Elche files a formal complaint with FIFA regarding a €2 million unpaid transfer for Iván Marcone. This legal issue adds to earlier claims made by agents for unpaid commissions related to player transfers.

Independiente Faces Legal Action Over Debt

Independiente's favorable present in football has recently been overshadowed. The Elche club from Spain filed a complaint with FIFA due to a debt from the transfer of midfielder Iván Marcone. It was revealed that the Argentine institution owes two million euros, a significant amount for its economy.

Marcone was acquired by Independiente in mid-2022 in a deal closed by the leadership of Hugo Moyano with the owner of Elche, Christian Bragarnik. Despite previous agreements, which established payment in semiannual installments starting in 2023, the Avellaneda club did not comply with what was agreed upon. In light of this situation, Elche opted to take legal action to resolve the conflict.

A similar situation recently occurred with agent Adrián Faija, who claimed a debt related to the transfer of Nicolás Figal to Inter Miami in 2020. Faija asserts that the commission agreed upon for the player's transfer, which represented 10% of the total amount of the negotiation, was not paid.

In another instance, Independiente also owes money to the agent of Esequiel Barco, a player transferred after winning the 2017 Copa Sudamericana for 15 million dollars. Despite this situation, the exact amount of the debt is still unknown.
